How much CSN loan can you get when studying at university?

Studying at a university or college not only means new knowledge and opportunities – it can also mean some financial challenges. Therefore, most people apply for CSN loans, and if you have already worked for a while, you can also receive adjustment support from CSN. But how much money can you borrow from CSN, and what rules apply to CSN loans, study grants, and adjustment support?

CSN – borrow money during your studies

What we often refer to as a CSN loan is actually a combination of study grants and loans. Borrowing money from CSN makes it possible for you to cover living expenses during your studies, even if you do not work and receive a salary.

The full CSN loan and grant for 2025 is 13,500 SEK for four weeks of full-time studies. This consists of approximately 70% borrowed money and approximately 30% pure study grant from CSN. If you do not want to take a CSN loan, you can choose to only receive the grant portion, which you do not have to pay back.

To receive a CSN loan and study grant, you need to be enrolled in an approved education program and meet certain requirements, such as passing credits according to the curriculum. The money is paid out every four weeks, and you start paying back the money you borrowed after you have completed your studies. On the CSN website you can read more exactly about what applies to study grants and CSN loans.

Study Confirmation

To borrow money from CSN, you must submit a study confirmation. The study confirmation means that you certify that you are registered in the program and are actually studying. You can easily click in the study confirmation by logging in to the CSN website or app.

Submitting a study confirmation is a prerequisite for the money to start being paid out. If you do not do it in time, you risk losing your loan and study grant from CSN.

CSN Adjustment Support

What does adjustment support from CSN mean? Adjustment study support is financial support that CSN offers to adults in working life who want to change careers or further educate themselves. The adjustment support from CSN consists of two parts: a grant that corresponds to 80% of your previous salary and a loan that can cover additional costs.

  • The maximum amount for the grant portion of the adjustment support from CSN is 5,275 SEK per week, which corresponds to approximately 21,100 SEK per month.
  • To qualify for adjustment support from CSN, you must be between 27 and 62 years old, have worked at least 12 months of the past year, and have worked a total of at least 8 years of the past 14 years.
  • The education you pursue must strengthen your position in the labor market and entitle you to adjustment support from CSN.

If you wish, you can combine the grant with an adjustment study loan.

CSN Loan 2025

From 2025, both the CSN loan and the tax-free amount will be increased, that is, the maximum amount for what you can earn while taking a CSN loan without the loan being affected. From 2025, you will therefore be able to both borrow more money from CSN and earn more alongside your studies.

  • CSN loan: Up to 13,500 SEK per four weeks.
  • Tax-free amount: For full-time studies for 20 weeks, the tax-free amount is 113,901 SEK per half-year, which means that you can earn approximately 18,983 SEK per month without it affecting the study grant and CSN loan.
